Filming in America

What to look out for ?

  • Know exactly where you want to film
    • e.g. Did you know that ‘Los Angeles’ consists of 88 individual cities?
  • Have a detailed plan of what you want to film
  • Don’t assume that the terminology you use is the same in the US
    • A ‘DIT’ is just that. He/She does not assist the camera operator
  • Answer all Questions on Forms
  • Have Cash on hand
    • In the USA ‘tips/bribery’ rules
  • Know your embassy’s emergency contact number
    • Know-it-alls are likely to be arrested (without proper cause)
  • Get your information on time
    • Processing applications may take from 4 days to 3 months

Production Services vs. Fixer/Stringer vs. Co-Production

What’s the difference?

A ‘Fixer/Stringer‘ is a local production coordinator/production manager.
He/She coordinates efforts for the foreign production and local authorities. He/She connects the production with local service providers, additional staff, location owners, etc.
Additionally, he/she processes all permit applications on the production’s behalf.
A ‘Fixer/Stringer’ is a local advisor to your production and is paid per day at a set rate.

A Co-Produktion is the collaboration of two production companies. Due to the content production being dependent on resources from both companies, a co-production allows us to sponsor visa applications and provide needed insurance for our producing partners.
A co-production is your ‘temporary local office’.
The cost involved are dependent on the type, location and staffing needs for such a production.

Unlike the ‘Fixer/Stringer’, Production Services do not only assist the client with advise and local support, but produce all content on behalf of said client. This makes it possible for the original production company to cut travel cost and get the product delivered directly to its offices abroad.
Services include, but are not limited to, applying for film permits, scheduling the shoot, budgeting, conforming to local law and regulations, operating as the official employer for all staff and talent. All payment processing is done locally and with appropriate discounts for the production (for applicable tax credit, please contact us at the end of the year prior production.)
